Fairbanks AK

I spent the first night in a parking lot on College Road.  The next morning, I stopped at the Walgreens in the next parking lot and ordered a refill that was too early to get before I left home.  The problems with traveling so much but thankful that the drugstore in Fairbanks could fill the prescription for me.

Then I went into Safeway to get a dark roast drip at the inside Starbucks.  I tried the standalone Starbucks in the parking lot but they didn’t have any dark roast beans, so I tried the one in Safeway.  They had a dark roast drip ready to go.

From there, I headed to Pioneer Park to stay in the parking lot for five days.  This let me drop the fifth wheel and travel around the area easier.   The first stop was at the park office to make sure that the reservation was good.  It was and they gave me a number of brochures for the area.

The next day I went to Sacred Heart Cathedral across the intersection at the end of the parking lot.  This is the cathedral for the Mission Diocese of Fairbanks.  It is beautiful inside.  The large crucifix over the altar is phenomenal.  The cross is rugged, much as I envision a cross made of trees like the Romans would have used.  I went for Adoration, but it was cancelled for a few weeks during Vacation Bible School.  I met Deacon Chuck who has family from Dallastown PA, a few miles from where I live.  Wow, small world.

The VBS has over 130 children.  He credits the Salvatorian Sisters for this.  They go out to visit and work with the families in the community.  Before the sisters came there might be 15 in VBS.

I rode my bike along the Chena River Walk and enjoyed watching the river.
