Leaving Denali National Park

After prayers and breakfast, I prepared the fifth wheel to leave camp.  I have been in Teklanika Campsite for six days.  It was a nice day with some clouds.  I drove to the ranger station at the paved road and headed out to the park entrance.  There, I dumped the waste tanks and got fresh water.

Then I went inside to get a shower.  That shower really felt good.  Ten minutes of water for five dollars.  A real deal in my opinion.  Then I did a load of laundry.  It started pouring rain as I walked across the parking lot with the dirty clothes.  I had an ice cream cone while I was waiting.  The rain stopped and the sun came out.  How ironic that the sun came out after the downpour.

A young lady from Germany was having a terrible day. She was here on holiday for two weeks. She travels all over the world for her holidays.  She accidentally locked the keys in the trunk of the rental car.  She was waiting for over four hours for them to come and open the door but they couldn’t reach her so they cancelled the call.  She then used a phone from one of the workers at the registration center so it was a US number instead of a Germany phone number.

She asked me if I had a charger for one of the newer iPhone’s she could use to make sure the service call didn’t get canceled again because they couldn’t reach her.  Her phone only had thirty percent charge.  My phone is older than hers so it used a different charger.  I looked at her phone, which was an iPhone 15, and it looked like the charger for my iPad.  I got the charger for the iPad, and it worked.  She was able to charge her phone to seventy percent.  It’s great to be able to help someone who really needed some encouragement and brightness in their day.

I headed south towards Anchorage and stopped at a pullout along the road.  It was a wonderful day.  The views were gorgeous.  Mountains all the way around me.  I sat outside and had a sandwich.  A raven stopped by to say hi (and I’m sure hoping I would share with it) then flew off.  A tractor trailer drove by and honked several times.  I waved as the truck went by.

A couple of seagulls flew by hovering around the area.  I was surprised to see them this far inland.  I remember seeing a lot of seagulls in Fairbanks.  I was expecting to see them when I get to the ocean but not clear into Fairbanks.  I don’t know why the seagulls are that far inland.

The wind started to pick up and began to howl around the edges of the fifth wheel.  The temperature started to drop, or it was the wind that was making it feel cold.  It was time to go inside from the cold wind.

It was a beautiful day, and I am blessed to be here in God’s creation.  I am looking forward to being in Seward along the water and fishing.
