Tyhee Lake Provincial Park Day 1

I decided to stay at Tyhee Lake Provincial Park for the second night (Friday) in Canada.  I couldn’t get online to make a reservation so I called the number but the call would not go through.  I pulled into the park and stopped at the board to see if I could determine how to get a spot for the night.  Many of the parks are on a first come first serve basis but you could make reservations for this park.

I waited for a fifth wheel to back into a spot and got out to ask if they knew how to tell which spots were available.  They talked to an agent at the national reservation number who told them that they could only make reservations for two or more days out.  The agent told them that they could take any spot that did not have a reserved sign on it.  I wanted a drive thru spot, so I drove around and found one.

I setup camp.  The jacks were lowered and the slide out section was moved into place.  I plugged the power cord into the shore power pedestal but had no power.  For some reason, the inverter for the solar system that I installed with the help of numerous friends and the company that sold the system would not permit the shore power from the pedestal to pass through to the fifth wheel.  There was DC current for lights and propane for the refrigerator, hot water tank, and furnace but without AC, I could not continue the trip.

The Park Agent came around to collect money for the stay.  In view of the situation, I paid for four nights instead of one.  I could talk to the company on Monday and hopefully resolve it by Tuesday morning to continue the trip to Alaska.

There were so many issues on this trip already and without power from the batteries or shore power, I was done and would have to return home.  I was devastated.  I called our oldest son Mic who has an electrical background, and we discussed the situation.  Mic reminded me “Remember Pop, you’ve got an ’06 truck and a 95 trailer.  These things are to be expected.”  I said I know but was still disappointed that I couldn’t go on with the trip.
