It was a great day. I got up, had breakfast and coffee. I headed up the road following the GPS directions to the border crossing at Sumas Washington. I stopped to fill the propane tanks at the Tractor Supply store, then topped the fuel tank with diesel before heading for the border.
I crossed over the border at Sumas Washington at 10:12 am on May 23rd. It finally feels like I am actually on the way to Alaska.
The Border Agent asked the normal questions, and I was on my way within five minutes. The road started climbing as I headed east on 1A.
Lots of traffic near the border while passing through the cities and towns. Then the traffic diminishes as the road leads into the countryside.
The countryside is beautiful. Mountains and water everywhere. A lot of water along the road. Swampy areas, small ponds, larger ponds, small lakes, and some that are very large. Lots of rivers, creeks and signs about the fish in them.
The huge signs along the road warn about the animals to watch for that might be on the road in the Wildlife Corridors. These were elk, deer, and moose. The Bear Proof litter containers along the road also indicate that bears are around too.
I took my time driving through British Columbia enjoying the day. It felt good to be on the way. As the day was coming to an end, I stopped at a Canadian Tire and asked if I could stay for the night. They gave me permission and directions on where to park.
I fixed a sandwich to eat and prepared to settle in for the night. As I sit here writing this, the wind is howling around the fifth wheel and the gusts are really moving it. I checked the weather app and it indicated wind at 5 miles per hour with gusts to 10 miles per hour. Something seems to be off here.
Tired but happy to be on the way to Alaska.
